Learn how to complete a Social Catfish opt-out to protect your digital privacy.

Like many other data broker websites, Social Catfish collects personal information by scraping the internet and compiling what’s found into a database.

When searching for personal information about someone on Social Catfish, you can find all sorts of data, including:

  • Full name
  • Age
  • City and state
  • Map that pinpoints where they live
  • Information about family and friends
  • Related addresses

Some of this data is available for free, while other information can only be accessed by paying to unlock it.

Many people don’t want their personal information — and information about their loved ones — available to the public. In order to keep your private information protected and safe, many data broker sites have opt-out processes.

We offer monitoring and removal of your personal information online so you can better protect your identity. Contact us today at 866-349-0130 to learn more.

How To Opt Out of Social Catfish

Here’s how to request the removal of your information from Social Catfish.

Step 1: Find your information on Social Catfish

Before you can submit an opt-out request, you have to find your data on the Social Catfish site. Go to the Social Catfish homepage and search for your information. There are multiple ways to search:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Online username
  • Street address
  • Reverse image search

If you’re not able to find your data using your first and last name, try a few different search options. Before you assume your information isn’t on Social Catfish at all, you want to make sure you’ve exhausted the possibilities. Even trying common misspellings of your name can turn up results.

Note that if your information is found, it can take a few minutes for your profile to load. This is common with some people search websites, and it seems to build tension by making you think there’s a ton of personal information available about you.

A website report page displays "Success! Data Found," including social catfish opt out results, a list of retrieved personal info types, a caution about potential shocking or explicit content, and a progress bar showing 89% completion.

Step 2: Enter your contact information to access your report

If Social Catfish finds your data, you’ll have to enter your email address and phone number to access it. Enter your contact information and then click the Unlock My Report Now button.

A web page shows a report notification with a blurred "Known Locations" section, plus options like social media, address history, and images. Below is an email form to unlock results and a red warning for users under 18 about Social Catfish opt out.

Step 3: Navigate to the correct opt-out page

Start on the Social Catfish homepage, which you can find here. Scroll to the bottom of the page. In the footer, under the Legal section and the Do Not Sell My Personal Information header, select one of the following links:

  • Law Enforcement Professionals: If you’re a member of law enforcement, click the Opt-Out Requests (Law Enforcement) link.
  • Non-Law Enforcement: If you’re not in law enforcement, click either the CPRA Privacy Requests (CA Residents) link or the All Privacy Requests (OR, CO, NV, ETC) link. Both of these will take you to the same page.
Website footer with company info, contact details, and privacy links. A red arrow points to three privacy request options: "CPRA Privacy Requests (CA Residents)," "All Privacy Requests (OR, CO, NV, etc.)," and "Social Catfish opt out for law enforcement.

While the links look like they’re only for people in certain states, the opt-out page says that Social Catfish will “accept and honor requests from residents of all U.S. states.”

Step 4: Follow the opt-out page directions

While the regular opt-out page and law enforcement opt-out page are a bit different, they have similar steps to follow. For this tutorial, we’ll be giving you directions specifically for the regular opt-out page.

First, select your state from the drop-down menu.

Then, fill out the opt-out request form with your first name, last name, email address and URL to your profile on Social Catfish.

Step 5: Check for the verification email
